Two Taliban insurgents were killed and seven others detained during joint operations between Afghan and NATO-led troops, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday, Xinhua reported.

"Afghan national police, Afghan army and international coalition forces have launched nine joint operations in Nangarhar, Kunduz, Helmand, Ghazni and Logar provinces over the past 24 hours, " the ministry said in a statement.

"As a result of these operations, two armed insurgents were killed, one wounded and seven others were arrested," it said.

The joint forces also seized weapons and defused three anti- vehicle mines and a suicide vest, the statement added.

Over 240 insurgents have been killed and more than 690 others detained in the country since the beginning of this year, according to the Interior Ministry.
