Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa on Wednesday extended his contract with Spanish champions Real Madrid until 2016, DPA reported.
"I am more than happy with this," said the 29 year-old defender, whose previous contract, signed when he joined in 2009 from Liverpool, was due to expire in 2014.
"It is an honour and a source of pride for me to be at this club. To be able to extend my contract for two more years is an absolute joy. I am delighted that the club continues to have confidence in me and I hope to continue enjoying myself here."
Arbeloa then had words of praise for Real coach Jose Mourinho: "I am feeling good under his orders. He has always given me a lot of confidence.
"He has managed to get the best out of me. We have a coach who demands a hundred per cent from us. He has a winning mentality and he knows how to transmit that to us. Mourinho has made me into a better player."
Arbeloa can play in all four defensive positions. He performed solidly for Spain at right-back at Euro 2012, after having been a reserve at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2008.
