Security threats close Australia's mission in Islamabad

Australia on Friday temporarily shut its mission in Pakistan's capital Islamabad because of security concerns over anti-Western demonstrations, dpa reported.

"We strongly advise Australians to reconsider their need to travel to Pakistan due to the very high threat of terrorist attack, kidnapping, sectarian violence and the unpredictable security situation. If you do decide to travel to Pakistan, you should exercise extreme caution," the foreign affairs department said in a statement.

The US State Department has warned its citizens to avoid the centre of Sydney this weekend in case of a repeat of Saturday's riot by Muslims venting anger over a YouTube video mocking Islam.
