US President Barack Obama named Thursday his chief of staff Jack Lew as his choice to replace Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary, dpa reported.
The announcement puts a key Obama ally into the crucial role amid ongoing economic uncertainty and crucial budget negotiations with Congress.
Geithner said last week he will hold firm to his plans to step down by the end of the month. Lew, 57, has served twice as director of the Office of Management and Budget. dpa aw npr Author: Anne Walters
