Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday defended the delivery of Russian missiles to the Syrian government, saying the weapons were for defensive purposes only, dpa reported.
"This is not a breach of any international prohibitions," Lavrov said in Warsaw, where he met his counterparts from Poland and Germany.
The S-300 surface-to-air missiles provided were exclusively for defence against airstrikes, "which as we know is in no way an absurd scenario", he said.
