The film and music industries are not entirely off the table for a landmark free trade deal with the United States, European Union officials said Friday after the bloc's trade ministers put the sector on ice ahead of negotiations with Washington, dpa reported.

"Audiovisual out for now, but possible later," Finnish Trade Minister Alexander Stubb wrote on Twitter. "Not perfect but happy."

As part of their agreement, the ministers paved the way for the European Commission - which will represent the EU in the talks - to issue recommendations on "possible additional negotiating directives" in the future, diplomats said.
