Fire chief: Six transported after LA airport shooting

Seven people were treated for injuries and six hospitalized after a shooting Friday at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said, dpa reported.

"We have multiple victims that have been shot and have been transported," said Jim Featherstone, acting Los Angeles fire chief.

Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon refused to confirm media reports that a transportation security screener had been slain in the shooting.

He said that a lone suspect pulled an assault weapon from a bag and opened fire about 9:20 am (1620 GMT), shooting his way past a security checkpoint and penetrating Terminal 3, where he was confronted by police and taken into custody. Gannon said there was "an office-involved shooting" in the incident.
