At least 25 killed in mosque blast in N. Afghanistan

At least 25 people were killed and nearly 40 others wounded after a blast rocked a mosque in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz on Friday, eyewitnesses said, Trend reports citing Xinhua.

The explosion occurred in Imam Sahib district shortly after Friday prayers roughly at 2:30 p.m. local time, a witness told Xinhua anonymously.

"The casualties were transported to the district hospital. The death toll may rise as many of the wounded remained in critical condition," he said.

The Taliban security forces cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Thursday, 34 people were killed and over 80 wounded in multiple explosions, including a blast targeting a mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of northern Balkh province.
