Ukraine ’s president wants ‘modern’ security policy

( For-Ua ) - Ukraine , like Europe, seeks to develop different aspects of collective security, Victor Yushchenko has said in Simferopol during a TV interview, President's press office informed.

"I am convinced our security policy will help Ukraine build its future if it agrees with continental security of our neighbors," he said.

The President promised there would be no foreign military bases in Ukraine .

"I think Ukraine will not be interested in providing its territory for military bases of any country. Having no such bases corresponds to Ukraine 's interests," he said, adding that no military headquarters can be opened in Ukraine under its constitution. He also said Ukraine must make it clear that nuclear weapons systemwill never be deployed on its territory.

" Ukraine must have modern security policies matching our national interests," he said.
