EU shaping new attitude towards Belarus

(Belta) - The present relations between Belarus and Europe will determine the future. The opinion was voiced by Jean-Pol Henry, member of the Federal Parliament of Belgium, president of the Belgian section for cooperation with Belarus in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, at today's meeting with speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Konoplev.

Let us remind you, a delegation of the Belgian parliament is visiting Belarus. Jean-Pol Henry is the head of the delegation, a member of the PACE and an associated member of the OSCE PA.

"I have always been an adherent to the parliamentary democracy and have always regretted the caricature of Belarus one can often find in Europe. I am trying to get Europeans to know better about Belarus", said the foreign guest.

He informed, a delegation sent by Javier Solana (the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy) is supposed to visit the Republic of Belarus in the next few days. According to Jean-Pol Henry, it means Europe is starting to shape a new attitude towards the Belarusian state. According to the Belgian MP, "Both the sides should use this chance". The Belgian parliamentarian also added he would be very glad to see Vladimir Konoplev visiting Brussels. Jean-Pol Henry is convinced, relations between the Belarusian and Belgian parliaments will continue developing.

Vladimir Konoplev thanked the foreign guest for the support Belgian MPs always grant to their Belarusian colleagues in PACE. He expressed hope the cooperation between parliamentarians of Belarus and the Council of Europe would be closer and more fruitful. and the Council of Europe would be closer and more fruitful.
