( Irna ) - Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said here Friday night good progress was made in talks with Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei in Vienna Friday.

Iran's secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) made the remark while speaking to reporters after his two-hour talks with ElBaradei on the country's peaceful nuclear activities.

"Following previous talks with the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, it seemed necessary to hold close consultations with the IAEA director-general.

"Ideas had been raised on cooperation with the agency which required consultation," Larijani said.

He added, "During Friday talks with ElBaradei, we reached a relatively good framework."

The SNSC secretary stated, " Iran always recognizes the IAEA as a professional and reputable body and is interested in very close cooperation with it."

He expressed hope the sides would achieve a more rational solution on the case.

"I think today's talks with ElBaradei will help the solutions pursued by Solana," he said.

Larijani hailed efforts made by the IAEA's head in political and technical fields and underlined his important role in settling the case.
