( Dw- World ) - Thousands of Greeks have hit the streets to protest against the government's response to forest fires that have killed more than 60 people and left thousands homeless. An estimated 8,000 people - many of them wearing black to mourn the dead - gathered at a square in front of the parliament building in the capital, Athens. Meanwhile, the opposition Socialist party said government suggestions that the Greece had fallen victim to a terror-like campaign of arson was designed to cover up its own failures. The verbal attack comes less than three weeks before a general election. Polls suggest the Socialists are trailing the ruling New Democracy Party.
