Türkiye Materials 4 February 2009 13:53 (UTC +04:00)

Turkey and Iraqi governments are working on a plan to open two new border crossings between the two countries, Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim has said.

Officials of the two countries discussed the plan at Iraqi Transportation Minister Amir Abd al-Jabar Ismail's visit to Turkey, Yildirim said.

He said Turkish and Iraqi diplomats were also talking on the matter, adding that Iraqi government welcomed the project.

Habur border crossing can not meet the needs of increasing transportation between Turkey and Iraq, Yildirim said.

Trade volume between the two countries reached nearly 5 billion USD in 2008. Turkey seeks ways to double that amount by the year 2010, reported World bulletin.
