Two soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed in two separate incidents in southeastern Turkey, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Tuesday.

One Turkish soldier was killed and another injured in an armed attack in the southeastern province of Siirt, according to the report. No further details were given, Xinhua reported.

The attack in the Sirvan district of Siirt came a week after 10 Turkish soldiers were killed in two attacks staged by the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Hakkari.

Another Turkish soldier was killed in a mine blast in the southeastern province of Bitlis on Tuesday, said the report.

The PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Some 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.

The Turkish forces have taken tougher actions against the PKK after the country's legislature extended the government's mandate to launch cross-border operations against the rebels in northern Iraq.

Turkish warplanes have been striking PKK targets in northern Iraq in the past few months.
