Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay an official visit to Syria on Sunday, 6th February, SANA reported.

The Premier would participate in laying the foundation stone for the Friendship Dam project on the Orontes River.

Erdogan is also to hold meetings with the Syrian officials on the Syrian-Turkish relations and means of boosting them in different domains.

Last January 2010, Syria and Turkey signed in Ankara a memorandum of understanding for setting up the 'Friendship Dam' on the Orontes Rive.

The dam is expected to irrigate 10000 hectares of agricultural fields in Syria and Turkey and to generate 16 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

Last December, High Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Turkey and Syria held its 2nd meeting in Ankara co-chaired by Premier Mohammad Naji Otri and Erdogan.

During this meeting 11 cooperation documents in the different areas were inked.

In December 2009, the Council's first meeting was held in Damascus where 51 agreements, understanding memoranda and work programs for joint cooperation in all domains including canceling entry visas for both countries' citizens were signed.
