The Turkish defense minister said on Wednesday that Turkey and Estonia had similar opinions on defense-related matters, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul met with his Estonian counterpart Jaak Aaviksoo and an accompanying delegation at his office in capital Ankara.
Speaking to reporters prior to the gathering, Gonul said Estonia had always expressed support for Turkey's EU bid.
Noting that he had had the chance to get together with his Estonian counterpart in various meetings for years, Gonul said, "We have discussed so many issues. It is pleasing to see that Turkey and Estonia have similar opinions on almost every matter related to defense".
Guest minister Aaviksoo said in his part that Turkey played an important role in establishing peace and stability in its region.
Praising Turkey's contributions to NATO, Aaviksoo said Turkey deserved to become an EU member as soon as possible.
Aaviksoo also noted that Turkey would make a remarkable contribution to the 21st century thanks to its dynamism, energy and young population.
The minister added that he hoped the political and military cooperation between Turkey and Estonia would continue in the upcoming term.
