The recent protests held in various Turkish towns, partially influenced the country’s economy, Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek was quoted today by the Turkish newspaper The Lira as saying.

The recent protests held in various Turkish towns, partially influenced the country's economy, Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek was quoted today by the Turkish newspaper The Lira as saying.

According to the minister, the Turkish economy will not face a great recession.

According to the official reports, there was a decline in the Turkish tourism sector following the protests in the country.

Earlier it was reported that about 30 per cent of foreign tourists cancelled bookings at Istanbul hotels. It was also reported that the cancelled reservations at hotels located near Taksim Square are expected to increase.

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said that the damage from the protests in Turkey reached over 70 million lira.

The official exchange rate is 1, 8860 TL/USD on June 7.
