Azerbaijan, Baku, June 17 / Trend /

Turkey has demanded an official explanation from the UK for information about tapping phone conversations of members of the Turkish delegation, led by Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek during a meeting of the G20 in 2009, published in the Guardian on Monday, said in a statement on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

"If there is even the slightest truth to any of these claims contained in this news report, this will evidently constitute a scandal primarily for the country concerned. In an environment where mutual trust, respect and transparency should be essential for international cooperation, such act by an allied country would clearly be deemed unacceptable" said in statement.

The British authorities are expected to present an official and satisfactory explanation on this issue, said in statement.
