Gulen as means of pressure on Turkey

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.16

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Recent political events in Turkey mirror the political processes in the world, and they are in many ways similar to what is happening in Azerbaijan.

Conducting of independent policy by any state entails dissatisfaction of world hegemonic powers and artificially activates destructive processes within the state due to the so-called fifth column. These powers first tried to do it in Azerbaijan, and now in Turkey as well.

The essence of what is happening is simple - to try to stand against the legitimate authority.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party has been ruling the country since 2002. However, the "fifth column" in the face of supporters of Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen came in an open confrontation with the state about two years ago.

It happened at the very time when Turkey openly opposed Israel, when the political influence of Recep Tayyip Erdogan significantly increased not only in the Islamic world but in the West, at the time when Ankara continued its cooperation with sanction-pressured Iran.

Once the center of world political activity shifted towards the Middle East, it turned out that not the Arab states, but Turkey is the most powerful force that can influence the processes in the region.

Therefore, the West today can't today enter the open confrontation with Turkey, especially because it is a NATO ally.

The only possibility is to try to put internal pressure on the government through Fethullah Gulen, whose organization like an octopus "unravelled its tentacles" into all the state structures. especially that the pressure attempts with help of the "Kurdish issue" are in recent years less and less effective.

A similar card was to be played in Azerbaijan. First there was Karabakh. Now, with the help of a large number of non-governmental organizations, which want to fight democracy with "democracy", the outside players try to weaken Baku's strengthening role.

Today Azerbaijan and Turkey are the leaders of the region.

What is even worse for all the foreign players - the neighboring countries are also strategic, political, economic allies with common history, culture, traditions and language.

Turkey's political power is strengthened by Azerbaijan's economic opportunities and vice versa. No foreign political force trying to influence the processes in the region accepts that.

Erdogan's current activity is primarily directed towards Turkey's future. With his activities, Erdogan ensures the country's security regardless which party will be in power in the coming years.

That's to say, today the leaders of both Turkey and Azerbaijan are strengthening the stability of their countries many years beforehand.

Currently, the main task of Davutoglu's government is to achieve the extradition of Fethullah Gulen to the country. Gulen, known as the founder of 'American Islam' in Turkey, is currently residing in the State of Pennsylvania of US.

Turkey doesn't believe that this issue can be resolved easily, at least because the 'expiration date' of Gulen who closely cooperates with the US intelligence services hasn't passed yet.
