Early election - risk for political parties in Turkey

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

A coalition government should be formed in Turkey within 45 days after the announcement of the results of the parliamentary election.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he is ready to meet with leaders of political parties to be represented in parliament of the country, but the leaders of these parties categorically refused to meet with the president.

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) is the leading one in Turkey and namely this party will have to choose a political "ally" for the formation of a coalition government. But for some reasons, formation of the government is delayed.

One of the reasons for this is that the other opposition parties, except the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), demand key positions in the new government, particularly primacy in the Interior Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has recently stated that the party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu should become the prime minister of the country for two years.

The Party of Justice and Development will unlikely to accept such conditions of the opposition parties.

Thus, everything points to the fact that a coalition government will not be formed in Turkey and the early parliamentary election will have to be held. But holding of the early parliamentary election is not in the interests of the Party of Justice and Development. No one can predict for whom people will vote in the repeated election.

In his last statement, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirms this.

He said, "We can not tell people that you have made a mistake not having voted for us and the early election must be held."

Proceeding from this, one can state that at present, the early election is a serious risk for the Party of Justice and Development and other political parties.

Although earlier the opposition leaders opposed the formation of a coalition government with the Party of Justice and Development, today they are already aware that they are in a hopeless situation. It is possible that the Party of Justice and Development will prefer to form a coalition government with the National Movement Party.
