Turkish PM: Opposition controlled from outside

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 28

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is controlled by the forces beyond Turkey's borders, said Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Dec. 28, the local news channel TRT Haber reported.

Davutoglu however didn't name any particular country from where the HDP's activity could be controlled.

As he said, each time Turkey achieves major success in its foreign policies and economy, the HDP tries by all means to destabilize the situation in the country.

Davutoglu added that the HDP is acting not like a political party, but like a protector of the PKK (the Kurdistan Workers' Party).

Earlier, local media reported that Turkey may lift immunity of some MPs representing the HDP.

The reason, according to the reports, is that some MPs from the HDP sympathize with the PKK and support the actions of the group, which is banned in Turkey.

PKK, which is listed as a terrorist group by the UN and the EU, has in recent months become active in the south-east of Turkey as attacks on military units and police stations have increased.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which is demanding the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been continuing for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
