Turkey respects Britons’ choice to leave the European Union, the TRT Haber news channel quoted Turkey’s Minister for the EU Affairs Omer Celik as saying June 24.
UK’s withdrawal from the EU can cause a domino effect, according to the minister.
“The EU needs Turkey, since Turkey is already a European country,” added Celik.
Britons held a referendum June 23 on whether the UK should to stay in the European Union, or leave it. The voting results indicate that the campaign to leave the EU, known as the Brexit, has won with 51.9 percent of the votes.
In the wake of the Brexit’s victory, David Cameron has said he will step down as the UK prime minister.
