Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold a meeting during the G20 summit to be held Sept.4-5 in China, the Haberturk newspaper reported June 29.
According to the newspaper, it is not ruled out that the presidents’ meeting can be held before the G20 summit.
Erdogan and Putin had a phone conversation June 29 and agreed to hold a private meeting. The last meeting between them was held during the G20 summit in Antalya in autumn of 2015.
The relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after the Su-24 bomber incident. Following the incident, Russia's President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on taking measures for ensuring the country's national security and special economic measures against Turkey.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter of condolences to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin June 27 over the death of Russian Su-24 pilot and expressed regret over the incident. Erdogan said Turkey "shares the pain of the downed Su-24 pilot's death with his family" and "sees it as Turkey's pain".
