A major terrorist attack has been averted in Hakkari province in southeastern Turkey, the Hurriyet newspaper reported July 27.

A mined car was found in the province as a result of the special operation conducted by the police.

The terrorist attack was planned by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group, according to preliminary data.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives. The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
