One of 140 megaprojects which Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party intends to implement is the construction of a new town near the third airport in Istanbul, the Turkish media quoted the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying May 24.

President Erdogan said that the party intends to construct a town with 10,000 houses.

“A new town is planned to be built along the shipping canal in Istanbul,” Erdogan added.

It has been recently reported about Justice and Development Party’s plans on implementation of more than 140 megaprojects in case of victory in the parliamentary election.

The projects scheduled for implementation will be announced soon during the pre-election rallies, the first of which will take place in the country’s Erzurum province.

On June 24, simultaneously with the presidential election, the election of MPs will be held in Turkey.

Incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Meral Aksener from the recently created Good Party (Iyi Parti), Temel Karamollaoglu from the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi), Muharrem Ince from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Dogu Perincek from the Patriotic Party (Vatan Partisi), Vecdet Oz from the Justice Party (Adalet Partisi) and Selahattin Demirtas from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) are running for the post of president of Turkey.

In the parliamentary election held in Turkey on November 1, 2015, the AKP party won 49.41 percent of the votes, the People's Republican Party (CHP) - 25.38 percent of the votes, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) - 11.93 percent, the Democratic Party of Peoples (HDP) - 10.7 percent of the votes.
