Turkey will start manufacturing fifth-generation fighters - TAI TFX, Turkish media reported May 29, referring to military sources.
It is reported that the production will be launched in 2023. With the commencement of the production of TAI TFX fighters, Turkey will stop using F-4 and F-16.
Turkey has invested about $35 billion in the defense industry over the recent years.
From 2011, Turkey, in the framework of strengthening the domestic defense industry, has set up the production of mobile outposts that proved effective in fight against the militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), as well as the production of Canik TP9 pistols, Anka drones and other military equipment.
Earlier, the trials of the domestic-made long-range surface-to-surface missiles have also been conducted in Turkey.
