The Turkish police has conducted a special operation in Ankara against individuals who collected fees from Kurdish businessmen for the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Turkish media reported on Nov. 6.

During the special operation 21 people were detained. More than 300 police officers were involved in the operation.

Reports also noted that operations against the PKK will be conducted in other Turkish cities as well.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted more than 25 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives.

The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
