Turkish military unit in Syria undergoes rocket shelling; several injured

One of the Turkish military units located in Syria’s Azaz district in the territory liberated as part of the Operation Euphrates Shield has undergone rocket shelling, Trend reports referring to the Turkish media.

Five Turkish soldiers were injured as a result of the shelling. The injured were brought to Turkey.

No other details of the incident were reported.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a new military operation entitled ‘Peace Spring' in Syria on Oct. 9. The president stressed that Turkey will completely destroy the hotbeds of terrorism in northern Syria.

On Oct. 7, Erdogan said that in anticipation of the beginning of new military operations by the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Syria, the US servicemen began to leave the region.

On Jan. 20, 2018, Turkish Armed Forces, together with the Free Syrian Army, launched the Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, Syria.

On Aug. 24, 2016, the Turkish Armed Forces launched the Operation Euphrates Shield against the "Islamic State", and with the support of the Syrian opposition liberated Jarablus border town, as well as Al-Bab in northern Syria.
