Turkey is Georgia’s main gateway to Europe, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said in Ankara during a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trend reports referring to Turkish media Oct. 31.

Gakharia noted that Georgia will pay special attention to the development and strengthening of relations with Georgia. The prime minister said that Turkey is one of Georgia’s main trade partners.

Gakharia also invited Erdogan to visit Georgia in the near future.

In August 2019, trade turnover between Turkey and Georgia amounted to $119.9 million, according to the Turkish Trade Ministry. Turkey's exports to Georgia reached $111.4 million, while imports from Georgia amounted to $8.5 million.

From January through August 2019, trade turnover between Turkey and Georgia amounted to $1 billion. During this period, Turkish exports to Georgia reached $872.6 million, while imports from Georgia amounted to $168.9 million.

From January through September 2019, Turkey's exports to Georgia from Istanbul, Ankara, as well as from the Ardahan and Artvin provinces on the Georgian border, amounted to $605.9 million.

From January through September 2019, exports from Turkey to Georgia increased by 4.49 percent, compared to the same period in 2018, and amounted to $1 billion.
