Some 34.5 million people out of over 45 million tourists who visited Turkey in 2019 arrived by plane, which is 76.7 percent of the total number of tourists, a source in the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry told Trend on Feb. 11.
In 2019, 1.4 million tourists arrived by ships, which is 2.9 percent of the total number, the ministry said.
Some 20.3 percent of tourists arrived in Turkey by vehicles and railway. Over 48 million tourists visited Turkey in 2019 by vehicles and railway, which is 14.1 percent more compared to 2018.
Some 14.9 million people visited Istanbul, while 14.6 million tourists visited Antalya in 2019.
The remaining 15.5 million tourists account for other cities of the country.
In December 2019, 2.1 million tourists visited Turkey, which is 10.1 percent more compared to December 2018.
