Turkey’s Arar Petrol A.S. company to expand oil, gas exploration zone

Turkey’s Arar Petrol A.S. company intends to expand the oil and gas exploration zone in the country and for this purpose it has applied to the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the ministry told Trend on March 3.

Currently, the ministry conducts assessment of the company's appeal.

Earlier, Arar Petrol extended the license for oil and gas exploration in the northwestern province of Canakkale in the area of ​​48,600 hectares.

The company also extended the license for oil and gas exploration in the Osmaniye, Adana and Hatay provinces, as well as on another site in the Canakkale province with an area of ​​206,000 hectares.

In 2018, 1,889 exploration wells were drilled in Turkey.

During 2018, the total depth of exploratory drilling operations amounted to over 3.9 million meters. Meanwhile, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) drilled 943 exploration wells with a total penetration of over 2.2 million meters.

Turkey’s Mineral Research and Exploration General Directorate (MTA) drilled 61 wells with a total depth of 92,599 meters, while another 144 wells with a total penetration of 167,303 meters were drilled by other Turkish companies.

Some 546 exploratory wells with a total depth of 990,466 meters were developed by foreign companies and 195 wells by joint ventures and consortiums with a share of foreign capital.

In 2018, 495 fields were installed by TPAO, eight - by MTA, 21 - by other Turkish companies, 304 - by foreign companies, and 91 - by joint consortiums. Meanwhile, 91,991 sites with the presence of hydrocarbons were discovered in Turkey.

In April 2014, a law that allowed oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey.
