Turkey announces seven-month airfreight operations via its Ankara Esenboga Airport

As many as 30,156 tons of cargo were transported through Turkey’s Ankara Esenboga Airport from January through July 2020, which is 56 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.

During the specified period, the country’s domestic flights transported 17,656 tons of cargo, showing a 63-percent slump over the year.

At the same time, 12,500 tons of cargo were transported through Ankara Esenboga Airport by international flights, having dropped by 40 percent year-on-year, the ministry said.

The Ankara Esenboga Airport served over 3.1 million passengers during the first seven months of this year, which is 62 percent less compared to the same period of last year.

More than 2.6 million passengers were served on domestic flights over this period, while a year earlier this indicator was 63 percent more.

In the first seven months of 2020, 500,963 passengers were served on international flights, which is 60 percent less compared to the same months of last year.

The ministry noted that in January-July, 28,569 flights were carried out through Esenboga Airport, which is 52 percent less than in the same period in 2019.

During this period, 23,191 thousand flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is 52 percent less than in the same period in 2019.

International flights via Ankara Esenboga Airport slumped by 54 percent over the year, amounting to 5,378 flights.

From January through July 2020, air traffic in Turkey decreased by 50.9 percent and amounted to 431,049 flights. Meanwhile, over 42.6 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports.

During the mentioned period, 1.2 million tons of cargo were transported through all airports in the country.
