Turkey records decrease in Jan.2021 cargo, passenger traffic at Esenboga Airport

As many as 3,553 tons of cargo were transported through Turkey’s Ankara-based Esenboga Airport in January 2021, dropping by 46 percent, compared to the same month of 2020, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.­­­­

According to the ministry, in the reporting month, the country’s domestic flights transported 2,962 tons of cargo, showing a 19-percent decrease over the year.

At the same time, 591 tons of cargo were transported through Esenboga Airport by international flights, which is plunge by 80 percent year-on-year, the ministry said.

The Esenboga Airport served 311,076 passengers in January this year, which is 70 percent less than in the same month of 2020.

Some 283,962 passengers were served on domestic flights over the reporting month, while a year earlier this indicator was 67 percent more.

In January 2021, 27,114 passengers were served on international flights, down 85 percent compared to the same month of last year.

Meanwhile, 3,257 flights were carried out through Esenboga Airport, which is 57 percent less compared to the same month of 2020.

In the reporting month, 2,821 flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is decrease of 53 percent year on year.

International flights via Esenboga Airport shrank by 71 percent over the year, amounting to 436 flights.

Air traffic in Turkey in January this year decreased by 45.9 percent and amounted to 59,827 flights. Meanwhile, over 5.2 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports.

During the reporting month, 187,141 tons of cargo were transported through all airports in the country.
