Turkey publishes 1Q2021 data on cargo movement via Izmir port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11

The volume of cargo transshipment through the Turkish Izmir port amounted to 2.25 million tons from January through March 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

During the reporting period, ships flying the Turkish flag handled 133,814 tons of cargo through the mentioned port, while ships flying the flags of other countries - 21.2 million tons, the ministry said.

“At the same time, the volume of cargo movement in transit via Izmir port amounted to 30,914,” the ministry noted.

The Turkish ports handled 94.6 million tons of cargo from January through March 2021.

Some 7.4 million tons of cargo were transported by ships flying the Turkish flag while 87.2 million tons under the flags of other countries.

Moreover, some 18.4 million tons of cargo were transited through the Turkish ports during the reporting period.

The Turkish ports as a whole handled 32.1 million tons of cargo in March 2021.

Some 2.9 million tons of cargo were transported by ships sailing under the Turkish flag while 29.3 million tons by ships sailing under the flags of other countries in March.

According to the ministry, 5.9 million tons of cargo were transited through the Turkish ports in March.
