Türkiye reveals number of vessels handled by its Gemlik port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. Türkiye's Gemlik port received more than 4 million tons of cargo from January through April 2024, the statement of Türkiye's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said, Trend reports.

According to the ministry, a total of 427,612 tons of cargo were transported from Gemlik port by vessels flying the flag of Türkiye and 3.6 million tons of cargo by vessels flying the flags of other countries during this period.

"From January through April 2024, a total of 7.8 million tons of transit cargo were transported from the Turkish Gemlik port," the statement from the ministry says.

However, Türkiye's ports received 34.3 million tons of cargo in April 2024.

During this period, the reception of cargoes to domestic ports by vessels under the Turkish flag amounted to 2.3 million tons.

"Cargo shipments by vessels flying the flags of other countries to Turkish ports amounted to 32 million tons," the statement from the Ministry reads.

Moreover, in April 2024, a total of 6 million tons of transit cargo were transported from Turkish ports.

The data of the ministry indicates that the ports of Türkiye received 137.1 million tons of cargo from January through April 2024.

"The cargo traffic of vessels under the Turkish flag amounted to 10 million tons. Meanwhile, by vessels under the flags of other countries, cargo traffic to the ports of Türkiye amounted to 127 million tons," the statement notes.

The statement adds that about 22.9 million tons of transit cargo were transported from the ports of Türkiye from January through April 2024.

Additionally, it should be noted that in April 2024, the ports of Türkiye received 4,756 vessels

The information says that during this period, the number of vessels accepted in the ports of Türkiye under the flags of other countries amounted to 3,329, and the number of vessels accepted under the flag of Türkiye amounted to 1,427.

Furthermore, Türkiye's ports received 18,477 vessels from January through April 2024.

"During this period, the number of vessels under the flags of other countries accepted by Turkish ports amounted to 12,704 and the number of vessels under the Turkish flag amounted to 5,773," the statement of the ministry added.
