( Cihan ) - United States continue to back up Turkey's accession to the European Union although signals from Germany and France indicate that a bumpy ride is ahead of this EU hopeful country.
US State Department's Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey said that the United States did not have the right to interfere in the decision of the union but added that the United States would continue to support Turkey in the process.
"We do have and continue to strongly support Turkey's candidacy for membership in the EU. That's certainly a position that we've conveyed to Chancellor Merkel. I'm sure it's a position that we will have the opportunity to convey to President-elect Sarkozy" said casey in the weekly press conference at the State Department.
