Azerbaijan reduces electricity export by over 20%

Azerbaijan exported 407.45 million kilowatt hours of electricity in Jan.-Sept. 2014 in accordance with the customs declaration, compared to 510.37 million kilowatt hours in the same period of 2013, the country's State Customs Committee said in its statistical report.

Azerbaijan exported $19.89 million worth of electricity in Jan.-Sept., compared to $20.97 million in the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The country exported over 595.67 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth of $24.85 million in 2013 in accordance with the customs declaration, compared to 482.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth of around $24.76 million in 2012.

Azerenergy JSC is the main electricity producer in Azerbaijan and owns hundreds of substations and dozens of power plants.

The generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased by 30 percent in the last five years. Currently, its capacity is 7,105 megawatt and this allows the generation of around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and subsequently, export of about 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
