Kazakh president: Europe and Asia to suffer from tightening of sanctions

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the importance of stopping of the sanctions within the framework of negotiations on the situation in the south-east of Ukraine.

"The logic of trade wars, the exchange of tightening of sanctions leads all of us to a dead end, it's a road to nowhere. The economic potential of countries weakened from mutual sanctions, people suffer, and social tensions grow, a new round of global crisis begins. Primarily it will be us - Europe and Asia, the Eurasian continent - who will suffer. Therefore I call for a return to constructive cooperation on the principles of economic pragmatism and mutual benefit. It is necessary to gradually eliminate penalties. Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening of the mutually beneficial trade and economic relations within the Customs Union, as well as Ukraine and the European Union. We are ready to discuss the ways of normalization of multilateral trade relations," said the President of Kazakhstan.

The President noted that the full support of the international community is required not only for the south-east of Ukraine, but also for the whole Ukrainian economy.

"The neighbors of Ukraine, both in the West and in the East should take part in it. This is critically important in order to prevent social and economic collapse in this country. We should consider the issue of creation of a special international headquarters or a fund for Ukraine economy support to overcome the catastrophic situation. It is necessary to work together to develop an anti-crisis plan of priority measures to save the Ukrainian economy. Measures to combat the crisis of 2008-2009 in Kazakhstan were correct, and we are ready to share our experience," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Kazakhstan President stressed that the international community should assist the positive outcome of talks between Ukraine and Russia on gas supplies, which is especially important in the winter period.

The head of state said that Kazakhstan welcomes the intention to discuss at the meeting the conditions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. "It is important that this document takes into account the interests of its neighbors as much as possible, including the Customs Union. In this regard, we welcome the open dialogue and we are willing to exchange views," said the President of Kazakhstan.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that a gradual, responsible treatment is required from all sides in the current situation.

"It is important to jointly discuss critical issues and find compromises. It is clear that there are no easy solutions. We propose to keep the format of the summit talks to develop mutually acceptable solutions. In order to continue a constructive negotiation process it is necessary to hold such meetings on a regular basis. It would be nice to finish this meeting, outlining the date and place of the next one. We are ready to organize the next round of talks in Kazakhstan as suggested by some participants," said the head of Kazakhstan, expressing hope that the dialogue that has begun will stabilize the situation in Ukraine and in the whole region.
