I hope the talks on the peaceable resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh could yield positive ends, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told Turkish journalists, Trend reports.

Aliyev said that if all sides observe the international law, the organizations which undertook the mediation mission, would become more active to achieve peaceable resolution to the conflict. “At any rate we continue peace negotiations and it indicates the hopes have not exhausted. However, though the talks were held over 10 years, no efficient result has been achieved thus far. We always held a unilateral position which is based on the international law. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored, and the Armenian occupants ought to leave the Azerbaijani territory, over 1 million Azerbaijani refugees should be repatriated,” he emphasized.

According to Aliyev, it is also possible to discuss granting of Nagorno-Karabakh with high status of autonomy within Azerbaijan. “The position is based on international norms, which are the major conditions in the resolution of any conflict. Armenia’s position contradicts the international law. The position is not based on ant international law права, as they want independence for Nagorno Karabakh. The key argument put forward is the will of Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh for self-determination. However, we know very well that Armenians live in different countries. Imagine, what would happen if they demand independence in all countries they reside,” the head of state underscored.

“Azerbaijan is eager to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within its territorial integrity and any other issue of out cannot be a topic of discussions. Nagorno-Karabakh will be neither annexed to Armenia, nor become independent,” the President stated.
