Today Uzbekistan opened the Asian Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics in the "Universal" sport palace.

The championship was organized by the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU), Uzbek Gymnastics Federation (UGF) and Uzbek Culture and Sport Ministry, as well as with the assistance of the International Gymnastics Federation.

UGF President Lola Karimova announced about the opening of the competition in the presence of numerous guests, fans of gymnastics, athletes and the national team members of Uzbekistan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Syria, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

"Uzbekistan is recognized as one of the world sport centers," AGU President A-Rahman Al-Shathri (Qatar) said." Given the fact that Uzbekistan created all conditions for organizing a major event at the highest level, we are confident in the success of the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship."

Gymnasts will compete for joining Singapore's first Olympic Games among the youth to be held Aug.14-26, 2010.

Participants of the single and group performances will compete in exercises with a rope, hoop, ball, maces, ribbon and all-around events. Gymnasts who will take the first two places in the individual performances and the winners of group competitions will be allowed to Singapore's first Olympic Games.

More than twenty judges from eleven countries were invited to evaluate performances of the Asian gymnasts under the guidance of International Gymnastics Federation's Technical Committee on Rhythmic Gymnastics and Championship's Chief Referee Noha Abou Shaban (Egypt).

The opening ceremony of the Asian Championship ended with a concert.
