Results of next media monitoring publicized

“Azerbaijani press treat the pre-election process more attentively than radio and TV companies,” Zeynal Mammadli, the head of the expert group, said to news conference on the results of the next week of media monitoring on 1 November, Trend reports.

The monitoring is held from 22 to 20 October under the support of CE Information Office to study products of 35 newspapers and 6 TV channels on conformity with the Media Code of Conduct.

Mammadli noted that amount of political advertisement and propaganda increased, while the enlightenment work with electors and the number of debates remained in the low level.

“The violations of the Code have sharply dropped, but this tendency was related to increase of political and advertisement materials,” he stressed. Most materials were of advertisement character.

According to Mammadli, the leader on the number of violations among the TV channels became Lider prepared 122 materials with 25 violations (20.49%), which followed by AzTV (6.68%), the Public TV(6.34%), ATV (5.71%), Space (5.17%). ANS became the single television, where no violation was revealed.

The most negative event was joining of Kaspi newspaper the top ten of publications violated the Media Code of Conduct more actively.

The most violations were recorded in the materials of Reyting newspaper. 28 violations (84,8%) were revealed in 33 materials published by the newspaper. Kaspi (72,098%) and Ses (71.56%) newspapers rank 2 and 3.

Mammadli also named three publications such as Yeni Musavat (229 materials), Azadlig (174) and Baki Khabar (176) paid more attention to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the country.

Percent of violations among publications financed at expense of the public budget is as follows: Khalg gazeti (38.63%), Respublika (23.7%), Bakinskiy Rabochiy (20.00%) and Azerbaycan (19.60%).

The monitoring aimed at covering of Azerbaijan’s reality will complete on 19 November.

The Monitoring group leaded by Mammadly includes 7 experts, elected by the CE.
