Azerbaijan to continue to increase electricity production

Volumes of electricity production in Azerbaijan reached 26.26 billion kilowatt hours in 2018, compared to about 21.75 billion kilowatt hours, projected for 2014, the government of Azerbaijan told Trend Oct.29.

In 2013, Azerbaijan produced 20.76 billion kilowatt hours of electricity compared to 20.58 billion kilowatt hours in 2012.

In 2015, the volume of electricity production in the country will amount to 22.91 billion kilowatt hours, in 2016 - 24.12 billion kilowatt hours, in 2017 - 25.24 billion kilowatt hours, according to the forecasts.

Work on the construction and reconstruction of generation and transmission facilities, increase of the use of alternative and renewable energy sources, support for business activities in the electricity sector, the reduction of technical and technological losses in the production and transmission of electricity will be continued for the development of the electricity sector in the country, the government said.

The main producer of electricity in Azerbaijan is Azerenergy JSC, which has hundreds of substations and dozens of power plants on its balance.

Generation power of the energetic system of Azerbaijan over the past 5 years has increased by 30 percent. Currently, the figure is 7,105 megawatts, which makes it possible to annually produce about 24 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. That allows the country to export annually 2,1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
