People crossing between Azerbaijan, Iran decreases by 8.5 percent

Passenger traffic between Iran and Azerbaijan via four custom checkpoints has decreased by 8.5 percent during the last Iranian calendar year compared to the preceding year.

The Iranian Custom Administration's latest report released on April 16 said some 2.601million people have passed the border checkpoints of Astara, Bilasuvar, Poldasht and Julfa between Iran and Azerbaijan during the period.

The figure stood at 2.844 million in the Iranian calendar year of 1391(ended on March 21, 2013).

Bilasuvar topped the list of custom checkpoint between Iran and Azerbaijan in terms of passenger traffic with some 998,804 passengers, while Julfa - 800,901 passengers, Astara -682,717 passengers) and Poldasht -119,064 passengers, followed in the last Iranian calendar year.

In the Iranian calendar year of 1391, Julfa custom checkpoint stood at the top of the list of passenger traffic between the two countries with some 1.172 million passengers, followed by Bilasuvar- 957,409 passengers, Astara- 609,815 passengers and Poldasht-105,166 passengers.

Some 30.04 million people have passed in total through Iran's border checkpoints in the last Iranian calendar year, which indicates a 9.1 percent increase over the preceding year.

About 15.2 million peoples have entered the country, while some 14.84 million have exited from checkpoints during the period.

Gheshm airport, Imam Khomeini airport and Kish airport customs were the top three checkpoints in terms of passenger traffic with 6.752 million, 4.989 million and 3.248 million passengers` checking in and out during the last year. The three airports share 50.1 percent of total passenger traffic between Iran and abroad.
