The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to spend more than one billion manat for upgrading and improving the gas distribution system in the country in 2011-2013, SOCAR's 2010 financial report says.
Investments are planned within SOCAR's Azerigaz Production Unit requirements in accordance with the State Program on Azerbaijan's socio-economic development for 2009-2013.
Under the program, Azerigaz is instructed to construct and reconstruct main gas pipelines, improve gas supplies to the regions, new settlements, and to rehabilitate and reconstruct facilities for electrochemical protection of main gas pipelines and the electricity sector.
The program also envisages improving gas supplies to consumers in Baku and surrounding settlements, and to other consumers, increasing fundraising and reconstruction of existing gas distribution systems, and constructing an alternate gas pipeline to the Mingachevir power plant.
