A short-list of consulting companies which are tendering on the preparation of a feasibility study to create a park on generating energy by alternative sources will be made till late Feb, Deputy Head of the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy Jamil Melikov told Trend on Thursday.
"At present there is a pre-qualifying selection and before late February a short-list will be drawn up. After determining the feasibility study consultants, the project will begin," Mr Melikov said.
According to preliminary data, capacity of a combined park which will operate on the basis of wind and solar energy will amount to 100 MW. The German Development Bank KfW expressed its willingness to allocate 130 million euros for development of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, although initially the bank said it would allocate 40 million euros. The loan will be given to the State Agency directly, though it was stated earlier about the possibility of the project's financing by local banks.
"It will be possible to speak about exact volumes of financing as well as the park's capacity after preparation of the feasibility study," Mr Melikov said.
The park will be situated at the Perekeshkul settlement (Baku).
KfW Baku Office told Trend earlier the project aims at increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the total volume of electricity production in the country and ensuring its long and efficient use of resources. At present the share of alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan doesn't even reach one per cent.
The president of Azerbaijan signed an order in late December, 2011 on the preparation within six months of the state strategy on the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan for 2012-2020.
Preparation of the strategy on the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan for 2012-2020 and the organisation of work will allow the country to reach a 20 per cent share of alternative energy in the total volume of energy consumption by 2020.
