Azerbaijan to double its oil production by 2020

Gas production in Azerbaijan will reach 54 billion cubic meters by 2020, Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Abbasov said during the meeting with a delegation of German researchers and scientists, the Ministry of Industry said on Thursday.

"Some 27 billion cubic meters of gas was produced last year. Azerbaijan exports gas to Russia, Iran, Turkey, Georgia. Production figure will double and reach 54 billion cubic meters by 2020," the deputy minister said.

During the meeting, the deputy minister informed the representatives of the German delegation on the history of oil and gas development in Azerbaijan. Abbasov said necessary infrastructure was created for the transportation of Azerbaijani oil and gas to different direction. Construction and commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the South Caucasus gas pipeline became the major projects implemented in this area.

Azerbaijan actively supports the project of the Southern Gas Corridor, designed to transport gas to Europe, by alternative routes through Azerbaijan from the Caspian region and Central Asia, which will ensure energy security of our country and contribute to the energy security of Europe.

Abbasov also informed the German delegation about the project of Trans Anatolian pipeline, noting that the implementation of the project will allow Azerbaijan to reach the European borders for the first time.
