Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 17

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

The implementation of the 'Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Energy Bridge' project is in the process of commercial talks, a source close to the project told Trend on Feb. 17.

The interlocutor said that all the technical issues in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey have been resolved and the commercial component of the electricity supplies within this project remains as an unresolved question.

A 550/400/220-kilovolt substation and a 400-kilovolt power transmission line were commissioned in Georgia in December 2013. The reconstruction of power transmission lines in Azerbaijan and several connection works on the Georgian-Turkish border were also conducted within the project.

"All technical work has been completed and currently the commercial issues are being addressed and this process is likely to be finalised in the near future," the source said.

He noted that at this stage all discussions and negotiations in Azerbaijan are carried out at the level of the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.

Previously, Etibar Pirverdiev, head of Azerenergy JSC which deals with the production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan, said that electricity exports within the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Energy Bridge are scheduled to start in 2014.

The 'Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Energy Bridge' project includes delivery of 1200 megawatt/hours of electricity to Turkey, 600 megawatt/hours of which will account for Azerbaijan.

In total the project envisages an annual export of up to 2000 megawatt/hours of electricity from Turkey to Europe.
