Over 80 percent of Azerbaijan's exports to Georgia fell to gas in January

Georgia imported 195.79 million tons of natural gas in oil equivalent to the sum of $40.31 million from Azerbaijan in January 2014, the Georgian National Statistics Service said on Feb. 26.

Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this type of fuel to the country with a weight of 86.24 percent of a total volume of Georgia's imports in this category. Georgia imported natural gas to the sum of $46.74 million in January, according to the report.

The volume of Georgia's natural gas imports from Azerbaijan increased by 18.42 percent in annual terms and in quantitative terms by a 23.88 million ton oil equivalent.

By comparison, Georgia imported 171.91 million tons of fuel in oil equivalent to the amount of $34.04 million from Azerbaijan in January 2013.

The share of gas in a total import volume from Azerbaijan to Georgia for the reporting period amounted to 82.98 percent.

Georgia imported goods worth $48.58 million from Azerbaijan in January 2014. The import volume from Azerbaijan to Georgia for the same period increased 0.9 percent. By comparison, Georgia imported Azerbaijani goods worth $48.15 million in January 2013.

Azerbaijan maintains second position in the list of Georgia's largest trading partners. Georgia exports vehicles, cattle (live weight), reinforced steel, cement, mineral water, glass and glass goods and medicine to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan exports oil and oil products, natural gas, trucks and construction materials to Georgia.
