Azerbaijan reduces electricity exports

In January-July 2014, Azerbaijan exported 383.45 million kilowatt hours of electricity under customs declaration, versus 491.21 million kilowatt hours in the same period of 2013, according to Azerbaijani State Customs Committee's (SCC) statistical report.

Between January and July, Azerbaijan exported electricity worth a total of $18.62 million compared to $19.82 million in the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The exports fell by 21.9 percent in quantitative terms, and by 6.05 percent in overall terms.

Azerbaijan, under the customs declaration, exported in 2013 over 595.67 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth $24.85 million, whereas in 2012 the country exported 482.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth about $24.76 million.

Azerenergy JSC is the main electricity producer in Azerbaijan. The company owns hundreds of substations and dozens of power plants.

Azerbaijani power system's electricity generation capacity has increased over the past five years by 30 percent.

Currently, the figure is 7,105 megawatts and this makes it possible to annually produce about 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. This in turn allows Azerbaijan to export annually 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
