Azerbaijan has potential to develop alternative and renewable sources of energy, Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev said at a conference on alternative energy sources in Baku.
He said that there are opportunities to use wind energy in Azerbaijan. During a year the average wind speed in the country ranges from 3 to 7 meters per second. Minister said that there are all conditions for the use of solar energy. The number of sunny days in Azerbaijan is 260-280 a year. There is an opportunity to use the energy of thermal waters in Azerbaijan. There are much thermal waters in Azerbaijan, in particular, in Guba region.
Minister said that the legal base is necessary for development of alternative forms of energy in Azerbaijan. It should be improved to facilitate relationships with investors, producers and consumers of alternative energy.
"Bringing the legislation in line with the necessary conditions will facilitate the development of alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan", Aliyev said.
Minister said that Azerbaijan today has potential to develop alternative energy sources.
